Himachal Pradesh launches scheme offering Rs 1.5 lakh for low-income families to build homes

The Himachal Pradesh government, through its Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, has launched the Swaran Jayanti Ashray Yojana to assist impoverished households in constructing a dwelling. The program is open to permanent residents belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes, whose yearly income is capped at Rs 50,000 and who do not already own a house. Eligible beneficiaries can obtain a grant of Rs 1,50,000 for building on land that appears in their name in revenue records.

To apply, individuals must download the prescribed form, attach a Himachali Certificate, caste and income certificates, land records (Tatima and Jamabandi), a Gram Sabha proposal, spot report, NOC and a verified house photograph, then submit the packet to the district or tehsil welfare officer and obtain a receipt. The entire process is offline and requires self-attestation where indicated.
