Hindu businessman and four relatives vanish in Chandpur amid alleged debt threats

Since August 20, Pintu Das, a Hindu entrepreneur operating a shop and a gold-jewellery loan business, has been unaccounted for along with his wife, two sons who are in Class 10, and another family member in Chandpur district. Local police reported that several individuals claim they have not been repaid for gold pledged to Das, suggesting a possible debt-related motive. Officer-in-charge Foyez Ahmed said investigators are still assessing whether the family chose to hide or if another circumstance is involved.

Das's cousin, Upama Dey, confirmed the disappearances and mentioned that Das faced threats due to his financial obligations. The incident follows the killing of a Hindu family in Rangpur, heightening anxieties about minority security in Bangladesh.
