Hipkins says Labour internal poll tops 30%, hints at new climate plan

Speaking on Morning Report, Chris Hipkins revealed that Labour’s internal Talbot Mills poll indicates the party’s support exceeds 30 percent, a figure notably higher than the 25.9 percent. He downplayed the external poll, calling it “the National Party’s poll” and emphasizing that many polls are circulating. Hipkins refused to disclose the exact internal number but confirmed it is above the 30-percent mark and better than the opposition’s readings.

He also hinted at a climate-change policy to be announced on Tuesday, criticized National’s billboard ads as misleading, and defended Labour’s plan to keep fuel excise taxes frozen, countering Transport Minister Chris Bishop’s claim of a $4.6 billion shortfall. Hipkins said costings will be released after the pre-election fiscal update and stressed Labour’s focus on health system reforms and solar power initiatives.
