Historian Darryl Cooper Writes Foreword for Neo-Nazi Author’s Revisionist Book

Historian Darryl Cooper announced he authored a foreword for a book by Thomas Cyr, an online figure known for open sympathy toward the Third Reich, sparking criticism on social media.

Darryl Cooper, a historian frequently featured on Tucker Carlson’s show, revealed that he wrote the foreword for a World-War-II revisionist book authored by Thomas Cyr, known online as Thomas777 and described as openly sympathetic to the Third Reich. Cyr is noted for wearing leather jackets with Iron Cross and Totenkopf patches while walking the streets of Chicago. Social-media commentators, led by Jesse Singal, condemned Cooper for praising a work that glorifies Nazi ideology, arguing that reading extremist texts is not the same as endorsing them.

The debate highlighted Cooper’s prior engagements with far-right forums, including a 2016 comment under the alias “Juggernaut Nihilism” on a white-nationalist site and his ambiguous statements about the Holocaust. Mother Jones previously labeled Cooper’s approach as subtly advancing pro-Nazi arguments, and the episode has reignited scrutiny of his role in mainstream media platforms.

Why it matters

The incident shows how mainstream media figures can legitimize extremist viewpoints by publicly endorsing their work.
