Historic Art Deco Tides Hotel Set to Reopen After Nine-Year Hiatus
The 1936 Tides Hotel on Miami Beach’s Ocean Drive will reopen in November 2026 after a nine-year closure caused by Hurricane Irma and a lengthy foreclosure battle.
Built in 1936, the 13-storey Tides Hotel on Ocean Drive was heavily damaged when Hurricane Irma struck Florida in September 2017, prompting its closure. The Chetrit Group’s $45 million mortgage with Ocean Bank went unpaid, leading to a foreclosure suit that ultimately produced a $95.6 million judgment after appeals and a 2025 trial. Safe Harbor Capital Partners acquired the hotel for a $10,300 bid at a March 2026 auction and secured roughly $44 million in financing from Maxim Credit Group to fund extensive renovations.
The renovation follows prior upgrades in 1997 and 2008 and includes plans for new restaurant concepts and possible operator partnerships. The hotel, famed for past guests like Marilyn Monroe and Jennifer Lopez, is slated to reopen in November 2026, restoring a landmark to Miami Beach’s Art Deco corridor.
Why it matters
Its reopening revives a historic Miami Beach landmark and resolves a high-profile foreclosure dispute.
