Historic RFK Manhattan Co-op Sells for $1.99 Million After Decades
Robert F. Kennedy’s former three-bedroom co-op at 870 United Nations Plaza has been purchased for $1.99 million, the first sale since the 1960s.
The three-bedroom, three-bath co-op at 870 United Nations Plaza, once owned by Robert F. Kennedy, has finally changed hands for $1.99 million, marking its first transaction in more than fifty years. Kennedy acquired the unit in 1965, just before the building’s 1966 completion, and used it as his New York Senate residence while his family lived at Hickory Hill in McLean, Virginia. The apartment retains many original features, including 48 feet of floor-to-ceiling windows, marble baths, and a galley kitchen with period appliances.
After an early bidding war produced a signed contract above the asking price, the sale collapsed and the property was relisted. Compass broker Mary Barbrack negotiated the eventual purchase at the asking price, and the building’s amenities include a concierge, gym, lounge, and roof deck with panoramic views.
Why it matters
The sale highlights the enduring value of historic New York real-estate linked to a prominent political figure.
