Historic Westport waterfront inn reopens after $8 million renovation of rooms and ballroom

After more than 40 years without a major overhaul, the Westport waterfront inn has reopened following an $8 million restoration of its guest rooms, suites and grand ballroom.

Located on the Long Island Sound in Westport, Connecticut, the historic inn opened in the Jazz Age and has long served as a local landmark for weddings, corporate gatherings and social events. After decades of deferred maintenance, owners invested $8 million to revitalize the property while retaining its 1920s character. Guest rooms and suites now feature neutral palettes, coastal accents and modern fixtures, complemented by upgraded Wi-Fi, smart televisions and climate control.

The grand ballroom, a centerpiece of the inn’s social life, received restored chandeliers, repaired plasterwork and a new lighting and sound system to accommodate modern functions. Behind the scenes, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems were overhauled, and accessibility and safety upgrades were installed. The reopening positions the inn as a refreshed destination for events and getaways along New England’s scenic coastline.

Why it matters

The renovation preserves a historic community venue while boosting local tourism and event business.
