HKIC Chief Clara Chan Says Firm Multiplies Investment to Boost Emerging Sectors
Clara Chan, chief executive of Hong Kong Investment Corporation, said the state-owned fund now leads investments and attracts additional capital for promising companies.
Clara Chan, chief executive of Hong Kong Investment Corporation, told a Commercial Radio programme that the government-owned entity has evolved from a pure investor into a catalyst that leads and aggregates capital for high-potential firms. HKIC aims to mobilise more than eight dollars of long-term market investment for every dollar it invests, thereby attracting additional investors. The fund focuses on cutting-edge fields including artificial intelligence, green energy and life sciences, and it seeks to aid the growth of the Northern Metropolis and the Greater Bay Area.
Chan said the corporation’s goal is to generate societal benefits beyond financial returns, hoping its portfolio companies will deliver products and services that improve lives. To date, HKIC has backed over 200 enterprises, with 11 already listed in Hong Kong and more than 30 planning listings this year.
Why it matters
HKIC’s strategy could amplify funding for emerging technologies and regional development in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
