Ho Chi Minh City braces for severe floods as tides rise to 1.85 m
Heavy rain and high tides are expected to cause serious flooding in low-lying parts of Ho Chi Minh City through Sept. 30.
According to the Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Center, heavy rain together with rising tides will push water levels higher across Ho Chi Minh City until at least Sept. 30. The daily high-tide cycle is expected to peak twice, early morning and early evening, with measurements at Phu An and Nha Be stations possibly hitting 1.6-1.65 m and at Thu Dau Mot station up to 1.75-1.85 m, exceeding the Level 3 flood alert.
These conditions are projected to cause significant flooding in low-lying neighborhoods, rivers, and canals, directly affecting traffic flow and everyday life. Authorities have advised residents to prepare for deep water, avoid flood-prone routes, and monitor updates closely. The warning underscores the vulnerability of the city’s infrastructure to combined meteorological and tidal forces.
