Home Minister Amit Shah says Hindi's growth must respect India's other languages

On Hindi Diwas, Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised India's rich tapestry of languages, calling it a cultural asset. He noted that every language embodies history, folk traditions, and societal self-awareness, shaping the values of younger generations. Shah asserted that Hindi's development is purposeful only when it proceeds alongside the dignity, promotion, and protection of other Indian tongues.

He described Hindi as a bridge linking diverse communities, not a representation of any single language. Shah, whose mother tongue is Gujarati, said Hindi enables him to connect across the country. He also encouraged youth to acquire global knowledge while preserving their native languages, and appealed to parents to speak their mother tongue at home.
