Homeless man dies after brutal paid fight in Granada, police launch probe
A homeless man died following a violent street fight in Granada where participants are allegedly paid to battle each other.
A video captured in Granada's Almanjayar neighbourhood depicts a brutal street fight between two homeless men, with spectators encouraging the combatants. After a powerful uppercut knocked one man unconscious, his opponent continued striking him on the ground. The injured man was taken to a hospital around 9 p.m. in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
The following morning, Policia Nacional detained the other homeless man suspected of delivering the fatal blows. Investigators say criminal gangs may be running an illegal business that pays drug users or homeless individuals €20 for each fight, an additional €20 for the winner and €10 for the loser, sometimes compensating with drugs. Sources indicate the fights have been occurring for roughly a month across various locations in north Granada.
