Homeowner Fires Shot After Woman Attempts Early-Morning Break-in in Leesburg
Police say a woman tried to force entry into a Leesburg home before dawn, and the homeowner responded by firing a handgun through the door.
Law enforcement was called to the 1600 block of Crest Avenue in Leesburg after a woman allegedly tried to break into a home before sunrise on Tuesday. According to one outlet's reports, she reached through a shattered window in an effort to open the door from the inside. The homeowner ordered her to depart, warned that he possessed a firearm, and subsequently fired a round through the door, shattering a window.
Police have not disclosed the woman's name, age, or any connection to the homeowner. The State Attorney's Office is reviewing the case to determine whether criminal charges are warranted, a process that could take weeks or months.
