Homicide suspect hijacks police cruiser, plows through Ohio home and attacks officers

A police chase in Dayton on September 3 ended when homicide suspect Tywon Dashawn Stephens, 27, escaped a PIT maneuver, fled on foot, and commandeered a police cruiser. He accelerated the stolen vehicle into a home on Greenway Street, crashing through the front of the house. During the ensuing confrontation, Stephens tried to seize an arresting officer’s gun and bit the officer, prompting a violent struggle.
Seven officers sustained injuries while finally restraining him, and two residents of the house were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Stephens is already a suspect in the fatal shooting of Tiffany N. Collins in Miami Township and in a carjacking incident in Moraine. The incident highlights concerns about police vehicle security and the dangers faced by law-enforcement personnel during pursuits.
