Honda to sell Mitsubishi Triton pickup under its brand across Southeast Asia by 2028

Honda Motor Co announced it will rebadge Mitsubishi Motors' Triton pickup for sale in Southeast Asian markets starting in 2028.

Honda Motor Co revealed plans to introduce the Mitsubishi Motors Corp Triton pickup truck under the Honda badge in Southeast Asian markets beginning in 2028. The agreement, described as the first of its kind for the two manufacturers, will allow each company to quickly expand its lineup to meet local consumer needs. The Triton, a one-ton vehicle built on a sturdy ladder-frame platform, is popular across Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) nations.

Honda presently does not offer any pickup models in the ASEAN region, making the move a significant addition to its portfolio. The partnership aligns with ongoing efforts by Honda, Mitsubishi Motors, and Nissan Motor Co to deepen their strategic ties. By sharing the Triton, Honda hopes to capture a share of the growing demand for robust pickup trucks in the area.

Why it matters

The deal gives Honda its first pickup in a fast-growing Southeast Asian market, reshaping regional automotive competition.
