Hong Kong chief says city can boost green projects across Belt and Road
Chief Executive John Lee announced that Hong Kong will help link Belt and Road economies with financing and expertise for green technologies.
At the inaugural Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference in Hong Kong, Chief Executive John Lee outlined the SAR's role in advancing green initiatives across the Belt and Road network. He described Hong Kong as a leading sustainable-finance centre capable of connecting projects with international investors, arranging financing structures, insurance and cross-border risk solutions. Using a solar-energy project as a case study, Lee illustrated how mainland equipment makers, a Southeast Asian developer and Middle Eastern capital could be coordinated through Hong Kong's services.
He also announced a Green Technology Bridgehead Programme slated for launch next year, intended to help mainland and overseas green enterprises introduce their technologies to Belt and Road markets. Additionally, Lee said Hong Kong would support firms from Belt and Road countries in accessing broader global opportunities. The remarks underscore Hong Kong's ambition to leverage its professional services to promote sustainable development throughout the region.
