Hong Kong police seize thousands of child sexual abuse images, arrest 21 men

In a police crackdown dubbed "Bravestrike," Hong Kong authorities detained 21 men, ranging from 19 to 47 years old, for handling and circulating massive amounts of child sexual exploitation material. The operation targeted a private social-media group that reportedly had more than 100 members, including private tutors, students, technicians, cleaners and construction workers. Seized devices yielded over 7,200 pornographic images of children and upwards of 120 covertly recorded videos, some captured in public venues like shopping malls, train-station escalators and public transport.

Eight men are charged with possession of child pornography, while the remaining thirteen face accusations of illegally filming private parts and distributing the content. A private tutor was identified as having photographed a female student during lessons and shared the images within the group. Superintendent Wong Yick-lung urged parents to be vigilant and to conduct police background checks on hired tutors, emphasizing that anyone joining such online groups is treated as an accomplice under Hong Kong law.
