Hong Kong’s revamped Huanggang Port launches 24-hour service, boosting Greater Bay Area connectivity
Chief Executive John Lee announced that the upgraded Huanggang Port will begin 24-hour passenger and vehicle clearance on Monday, aiming to improve cross-border efficiency.
Chief Executive John Lee marked the opening of the modernised Huanggang Port, noting that it will provide 24-hour clearance for passengers and passenger vehicles starting at 6:30 am on Monday. He described the facility as a tangible expression of national planning, institutional innovation and a milestone for Greater Bay Area connectivity. The port now uses a “collaborative inspection and joint clearance” system intended to speed border processing and enhance traveller experience.
Lee linked the development to Hong Kong’s recently released five-year plan, which aligns with the national 15th Five-Year Plan to facilitate cross-border movement of people, logistics, capital and information. Shenzhen port office representative Xue Huaming said authorities anticipate a surge of users and have prepared crowd-control measures to ensure smooth operations. The launch is positioned as a key step in Hong Kong’s participation in the Greater Bay Area’s broader development.
Why it matters
Round-the-clock border processing will ease travel and trade between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, supporting regional economic integration.
