Hoover guard Connor Newell commits to Mount Union basketball program

Connor Newell, a senior guard at Hoover High School, used an Aug. 13 social-media post to confirm his decision to join the Mount Union men’s basketball program, the Purple Raiders. During his junior campaign he connected on 55 three-pointers, shooting close to 39 % from beyond the arc, and was named to the All-Federal League and All-Stark County second teams. A highlight of his high-school career came when his last-second three gave Hoover a 74-71 victory over Massillon, the sole defeat in a campaign that culminated in an OHSAA Division II state championship.
