Horizon Organic recalls over 53,000 cases of shelf-stable chocolate milk

Horizon Organic Dairy initiated a voluntary recall of more than 53,000 cases of its shelf-stable 1% chocolate milk after receiving consumer complaints about bloated packaging and milk that spoils early. The recall, launched on Aug. 7 in partnership with the Food and Drug Administration, affects 8-ounce cartons with best-by dates extending to 2027. Kendra Harrison, the firm’s head of quality and food safety, emphasized that the problem is limited to packaging defects and does not involve allergens or pathogens.

Shoppers are advised to throw away the affected cartons, keep purchase receipts and reach out to Horizon for refund eligibility. This action follows a March recall of over 3,500 cases of a similar product due to a seal issue. Horizon, founded in Boulder in 1991 and now based in Broomfield, Colorado, remains a leading organic dairy brand in the United States.
