Horizons leader Marcangeli urges repeal of tax hikes and revival of pension reform
Laurent Marcangeli, head of Horizons deputies, called for cancelling planned tax increases and reinstating the 2023 pension reform during the budget debate in the National Assembly.
During the parliamentary review of the state and social security budgets, Laurent Marcangeli, the chief of Horizons deputies, outlined several policy reversals. He proposed eliminating the tax increases that have been scheduled and restoring the pension reform of 2023, which was put on hold the previous year. Marcangeli also opposed a plan to replace one third of civil servants.
Although he agrees with the objective of lowering the public deficit to 5% of GDP by 2027, he contends that raising taxes would conflict with that target. His remarks were made in an interview while the budget debate continues in the National Assembly. The suggestions reflect Horizons' stance on fiscal and social policy amid broader government negotiations.
Why it matters
The proposals could reshape France's tax policy and pension system as the government finalizes its 2027 budget.
