House Democrats launch probe into ICE officer who brandished gun at Virginia mother

House Democrats announced a formal investigation into an ICE officer who pointed a firearm at Carolina Molina after accusing her of trying to run officers over in Falls Church, Virginia.

On August 10, Carolina Molina, a licensed immigration counselor, was driving through a business complex in Falls Church when she observed ICE officers detaining two individuals. After shouting profanities, she was blocked by two vehicles and approached by a masked ICE officer who drew his gun and accused her of attempting to run the officers over. Molina captured the exchange on video, refuting the allegation and stating she is a U.S. citizen.

House Democrats, led by Reps. Don Beyer, Suhas Subramanyam, James Walkinshaw and others, met with Molina on Capitol Hill and sent a letter to Attorney General Todd Blanche calling for a civil-rights investigation and administrative leave for the involved agents. The letter was co-signed by ranking members of the House oversight, judiciary, and homeland security committees, including Robert Garcia, Jamie Raskin, and Bennie Thompson.

DHS later described Molina as an “anti-ICE agitator” and claimed she “weaponized” her vehicle. The Democrats argue the episode mirrors other alleged ICE abuses and demand accountability.

Why it matters

The probe could set a precedent for oversight of federal immigration enforcement actions against U.S. citizens.
