House GOP leaders subpoena WilmerHale partner over ActBlue donation allegations

The chairs of the House Judiciary, Administration, and Oversight committees—Jim Jordan, Bryan Steil and James Comer—sent a letter to Ronald Machen, a partner at WilmerHale, ordering a formal interview about alleged misconduct at the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue. Machen had previously supplied a briefing and authored a white paper that appeared to back the testimony of ActBlue chief Regina Wallace-Jones before the House Administration Committee.
The Republicans contend that Machen’s later remarks contradict records they say show ActBlue’s wrongdoing, including the illegal acceptance of foreign donations, a charge the firm rejects. The letter sets Oct. 12 as the deadline for scheduling the interview. The inquiry underscores ongoing partisan scrutiny of campaign finance practices.
