House Oversight Committee votes unanimously to cite Leon Black for contempt
The House Oversight Committee voted 41-0 to recommend contempt of Congress against billionaire Leon Black for refusing subpoenaed testimony and documents in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
In a unanimous 41-0 vote, the House Oversight Committee adopted a resolution to recommend that Leon Black be held in contempt of Congress for defying subpoenas tied to the Jeffrey Epstein probe. Black, who co-founded Apollo Global Management, failed to appear before the panel on Sept. 3 and did not turn over nondisclosure agreements, citing privacy concerns for women associated with Epstein. He is contesting the subpoenas in federal court, claiming they have no legitimate connection to the committee’s legislative duties.
The contempt recommendation will now be considered by the full House, which could forward it to the Justice Department for possible charges. Committee chairman James Comer and Democratic ranking member Robert Garcia praised the move, while Black’s attorneys argue the subpoenas constitute an illegal power grab. The Justice Department will ultimately decide whether to pursue prosecution.
