House Republican leader warns Democrats would impeach Trump if they take House

Steve Scalise, the House Majority Leader, warned that a Democratic takeover of the House would trigger an immediate impeachment effort against Donald Trump. He referenced the two prior impeachments passed by Democrats when they controlled the chamber, despite the Senate’s failure to convict. Although senior Democratic leaders have not formally endorsed another impeachment, progressive lawmakers have already introduced several resolutions aimed at Trump and members of his administration.

Scalise argued that these actions reflect a growing influence of the party’s socialist wing, citing recent primary defeats of establishment Democrats. He also linked the alleged impeachment push to broader policy disputes, such as prison funding and border security, and suggested Republicans have opportunities to flip seats in states like Maine, Texas, Ohio, and Florida. One outlet sought a response from the House Democrats' campaign organization but did not receive one.
