Houston officers wound gunman who opened fire on passing cars, injuring mother and daughter

At approximately 11 a.m., Houston police were dispatched to Wayside Drive after multiple calls about a shooter firing at passing automobiles. Upon arrival, officers located a man brandishing a gun and commanded him to surrender. A team of three officers and a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper discharged their weapons, hitting the suspect several times; he was subsequently transported to a medical facility.

The gunfire struck three individuals: a mother and her daughter in one car, and a passenger in a second vehicle; a third car's occupant managed to avoid injury. No law-enforcement personnel were harmed in the exchange. A witness named David described the shooter as firing without regard for who was in the cars. The Houston Police Department, together with the Texas Rangers, is leading the investigation, and the suspect's identity and motive have not been released.
