Houthi missile and drone barrage strikes residential districts of Marib

The Houthis launched multiple missiles and drones at Marib, hitting homes and injuring civilians, officials said.

Local officials said the Houthis struck the government-controlled city of Marib with a series of ballistic missiles and drones, damaging homes, vehicles and other property while injuring multiple people. Four missiles and four drones were launched on Saturday, followed by a fifth missile that caused another injury and a sixth missile sent overnight. The provincial authority labeled the raids an "ongoing assault" endangering civilians, displaced-person camps and residential areas in a city that hosts more than two million of Yemen's five million displaced residents.

Video. Yemen’s Ministry of Information warned that targeting densely populated zones marks a dangerous escalation, while UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg cautioned that the fighting could undo the relative calm since the April 2022 truce.

Why it matters

The strikes threaten the safety of millions of displaced Yemenis and risk widening the country's fragile cease-fire.
