Houthis unleash fresh missile and drone barrage on Yemen's al-Makha port

A fresh Houthi offensive struck the Red Sea port of al-Makha on Sunday night, employing a large number of ballistic missiles and drones that killed at least 11 individuals, among them eight members of the military and three civilians, and wounded 32. Yemeni government forces reported intercepting six drones and saw two missiles splash into the sea without hitting their intended targets. The attacks caused extensive damage to the city's commercial port, destroying infrastructure, goods and food supplies, and an explosive unmanned boat was also neutralised.

The National Resistance Forces, aligned with the internationally recognised government, urged locals to remain indoors, accusing the Houthis of indiscriminate shelling. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed the strikes were aimed at Saudi troop concentrations and weapons depots, citing a continued Saudi military buildup on Yemen's western coast and in Taiz province. Houthi political council member Hizam al-Assad added that explosions and smoke at the port stemmed from stored weapons and equipment.
