How to Customize Siri’s Voice and Settings on Current iOS Versions

Apple provides a straightforward way to alter Siri’s voice on existing iOS and iPadOS devices by opening Settings, selecting Apple Intelligence & Siri, and choosing a new voice from the list, which downloads over Wi-Fi or cellular. Users can also decide whether Siri answers aloud, quietly, or only with on-screen text via the Talk & Type or Siri Responses sections. The upcoming iOS 27 will add an “Expressive Voice” that lets compatible hardware—specifically iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, Air and M4-chip iPads with 12 GB RAM—adjust the emotional tone and pacing of the assistant, though only American and British English options currently expose these sliders.

Those running the iOS 27 beta will see a new black Settings screen with a central orb and a drop-down menu for voice selection. Beyond voice changes, the Accessibility → Siri menu offers controls for speaking rate, pause time, handling atypical speech, interruption commands and request transcription, useful for all supported devices. While older iPhones up to the SE 2nd generation will receive iOS 27, they will not get the full expressive-voice suite.
