How to Detect Unauthorized Access on Major AI Chat Platforms
A step-by-step guide explains how users can verify whether their ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity accounts have been compromised.
To protect against intrusions on popular AI services, the guide recommends using a password manager and enabling multi-factor authentication wherever available. ChatGPT and Perplexity support MFA, whereas Claude authenticates users through email login links rather than passwords. On ChatGPT, users navigate to Settings → Security and Login → Active Sessions to spot unknown devices, then can log out individually or all at once and reset their password via a emailed code.
Claude’s Settings → Account page lists active sessions, allowing termination of any suspicious entry, but no password change is possible. Perplexity does not display session details; instead, users select “Sign out of all sessions” in All Settings and re-enter using a six-digit code sent to their email. The instructions aim to help users quickly identify and remove unauthorized access.
Why it matters
Compromised AI accounts can expose personal data and misuse powerful language models, so detecting breaches is essential for user security.
