HP launches thin, lightweight OmniBook 5 14 with OLED display at $699.99

HP unveiled the OmniBook 5 14, a thin, lightweight laptop priced from $699.99, featuring an OLED screen and Intel “Wildcat Lake” CPU.

HP announced its new OmniBook 5 14, positioned as a challenger to Apple’s MacBook Neo, with a starting price of $699.99. The entry configuration pairs an Intel Core 5 315 “Wildcat Lake” processor with 8 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD and an OLED panel that, while present on all trims, provides a modest 1920 × 1200 resolution and 300 nits brightness in the non-touch version. A touchscreen variant with a 2560 × 1600 OLED and 400 nits will not be available until March 2027.

Weighing 2.56 lb and measuring 0.46 inches (11.7 mm) thick, the device is marginally lighter and thinner than the Neo and carries a colorful four-tone palette. Standard features include a 1080p webcam, dual speakers, HDMI, a 3.5 mm audio jack and two 10 Gbps USB-C ports, with optional upgrades up to a Core 7 350 CPU, 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD. HP also revealed a ProBook 4 G2iS business notebook, claimed to be its thinnest at 0.47 inches, slated for a December launch with similar base specs but no price disclosed.

Why it matters

The OmniBook offers consumers a lower-priced OLED laptop that directly competes with Apple’s premium MacBook line.
