Hradec Králové Court Hands Down Long Prison Terms for Family Human Trafficking Ring

A court in Hradec Králové sentenced a family to up to twelve years for running a human-trafficking operation from 2001 to 2024, where victims earned as little as 30 CZK a day.

The trial concluded that the family operated as an organized group that lured workers with misleading job ads and paid them negligible wages, sometimes none at all. Father Martin Novotný senior was identified as the leader and also found guilty of causing serious bodily injury after a victim’s leg was broken. The court imposed sentences of up to twelve years for the defendants, reflecting the severity of the forced-labor scheme.

Why it matters

It highlights the legal consequences for organized labor exploitation and protects vulnerable workers.
