HSBC Singapore stresses human advisors’ role despite rising AI use in investing

A new HSBC study shows most Singapore investors rely on AI for analysis but still prefer human advisers to make final decisions.

According to an HSBC survey, a large majority of Singapore investors employ AI tools to crunch numbers, but a small minority rely on those tools for decisive advice. Ishan Sarkar, who leads Wealth and Premier Solutions at HSBC Singapore, explained that human advisers remain essential because they ask probing questions and interpret market sentiment, tasks that AI struggles with during periods of uncertainty. He emphasized that AI actually expands the capacity of relationship managers, allowing them to engage more clients meaningfully rather than restricting service to the ultra-wealthy.

The podcast also examined the reaction of investors during the Middle East conflict, where heightened anxiety outpaced the data signals AI produced, underscoring the need for human insight. Overall, one outlet suggests the future of wealth management lies in a partnership between AI efficiency and human judgment.
