Huawei unveils Mate XT 2 trifold with Samsung-inspired privacy screen in China
Huawei launched the Mate XT 2, a three-fold smartphone that mirrors Samsung’s inward-folding design and adds an optional privacy OLED display.
Huawei’s latest flagship, the Mate XT 2, entered the Chinese market today, featuring an inward-folding trifold layout that echoes Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold. Unlike the original Mate XT’s accordion style, the XT 2 folds both sides of its 10.2-inch flexible display inward, shielding the screen from damage. A notable addition is an optional privacy OLED panel that narrows light emission, making the screen appear dark from side angles, a technology first introduced by Samsung on the S26 Ultra.
Buyers must select the 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage option and pay ¥1,000 to enable the privacy screen. Powered by Huawei’s new Kirin 9050 Pro processor, the phone also boasts IP59 water resistance and a triple-camera rear system. Priced at ¥19,999, the Mate XT 2’s international rollout remains uncertain, while Samsung’s own TriFold has already been discontinued.
Why it matters
The launch shows Huawei borrowing Samsung’s design cues while adding privacy features, highlighting competition in the high-end foldable market.
