Hubble captures massive superbubble inside the N44 nebula of the Large Magellanic Cloud

The Hubble Space Telescope photographed N44, revealing a huge central void—a superbubble about 210 by 140 light-years—shaped by energetic stars.

In a new image released on Sept. 3, 2026, Hubble shows the N44 nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The nebula features a dense, dusty shell surrounding a vast central cavity. This cavity, called a superbubble, spans roughly 210 × 140 light-years and was carved out by powerful stellar winds and past supernova explosions from the bright stars at its core.
