HUD chief praises Trump’s policies at Republican midterm convention

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner lauded President Donald Trump’s immigration and economic actions during a speech at the GOP midterm convention in Texas.

At the Republican midterm convention in Texas, HUD Secretary Scott Turner delivered a keynote that painted the Biden era as a period of surrender and unchecked illegal immigration. He asserted that Trump’s policies curtailed illegal entries and deported existing undocumented residents, ending competition for housing. Turner highlighted HUD’s anti-fraud efforts, noting a $56 billion blockage of fraudulent payments in California.

He declared diversity, equity and inclusion programs dead and praised Trump’s economic agenda. The secretary also framed housing aid as a launch pad for the American dream and referenced pending Federal Open Market Committee talks about possibly lowering the current 3.5%-3.75% interest rates. Turner, a former Texas legislator and pastor, repeatedly rallied the crowd with “Are you with us?”

Why it matters

The speech signals the administration’s alignment with Trump-focused policies, influencing future housing and immigration debates.
