Human bones found in sacks inside a fake crypt at Slatina cemetery
Workers at the Strehareț Cemetery in Slatina uncovered several sacks of human bones hidden in a false crypt while preparing a new grave.
Employees tasked with managing the Strehareț Cemetery in Slatina found several burlap sacks filled with human bones concealed beneath a counterfeit crypt while digging a new grave. The discovery prompted a police report, and officers are currently conducting investigations at the location. The cemetery, owned by the municipality, had been operated by a private company under a concession that was recently cancelled following a court order and a municipal council decision.
The former concessionaire has been evicted, and a lawsuit between the local authority and the company remains pending. Local mayor Mario De Mezzo said the find suggests more hidden sacks may exist and that further excavation will proceed under a prosecutor's mandate.
