Human remains found near Palomar Mountain not linked to missing nurse Angelica Brophy

A volunteer search-and-rescue group recovered human remains on Wednesday afternoon in an embankment near the 33,000 block of South Grade Road in Pauma Valley, less than three miles from the entrance to Palomar Mountain State Park. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office announced that the remains are not those of Angelica Brophy, a 44-year-old Oceanside emergency-room nurse missing since July 6, whose car was later found in the park’s parking lot.

Officials have not yet identified the person, nor determined whether the remains are male or female, and the county medical examiner will conduct a cause-of-death investigation. Brophy was last seen on July 6 after dropping her daughter at camp, later entering the park and parking her Hyundai near Doane Pond. Multiple agencies, including the U.S. Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue Team and Oceanside Police, have conducted extensive searches, but no trace of her has been found. Police say there is currently no evidence of foul play, and they continue to pursue new leads while working with Brophy’s family.
