Human-rights lawyers join team to challenge Thai asset freeze on Cambodian tycoon
International human-rights attorney Jared Genser and former White House counsel Lanny J. Davis have been added to the legal team representing Cambodian businessman Yim Leak in a dispute over a massive Thai asset freeze.
Seiden Law LLP announced that internationally recognized human-rights lawyer Jared Genser and former White House Special Counsel Lanny J. Davis have been added to the advocacy team for Cambodian entrepreneur Yim Leak. Genser, managing director of Perseus Strategies and longtime pro-bono counsel to Nobel Peace Prize winners, said the Thai authorities’ enforcement is disproportionate to a routine $150,000 exchange that triggered a freeze of more than 20 billion baht.
Davis, who has advised Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, warned that the Thai government may be complicit or deliberately ignoring a sustained smear campaign against Leak. The legal team aims to challenge the freeze, highlight due-process violations, and investigate any misuse of anti-money-laundering and forfeiture powers. Robert Seiden, founder of the firm, has previously represented high-profile clients including the Trump Organization. The case has attracted attention from investors and human-rights observers concerned about Thailand’s use of financial enforcement tools.
