Hundreds of damaged police cars piled four high at Oxfordshire scrapyard

ASM Auto Recycling in Thame, Oxfordshire, has become the resting place for about 64 former Metropolitan Police cars that were totaled in various incidents. The wrecked fleet, valued at roughly £2.5 million when new, is arranged in a wall two vehicles thick and four vehicles high across the 20-acre yard. The damaged cars show extensive damage, including missing windows, doors, and smashed bonnets and bumpers.

Large JCB machines equipped with pincers break the cars apart, separating parts for recycling. The operation claims to recycle 95 % of the material from each vehicle and holds a stock of over 100,000 recycled parts. The sight highlights the scale of police vehicle turnover and the capacity of the scrap yard.
