Hundreds of NGOs say Gaza ceasefire remains only on paper

Over 100 humanitarian and rights groups say the Gaza ceasefire, backed by the United States, has failed to stop Israeli attacks and aid restrictions.

A joint declaration by over 100 humanitarian, human rights and civil-society organisations asserts that the Gaza ceasefire, secured with U.S. support, exists only in name. The NGOs, among them Amnesty International, the Norwegian Refugee Council, Save the Children, Oxfam and Greenpeace, say Israeli forces continue to kill and wound Palestinians daily and impede the flow of aid and rebuilding materials. They note more than 1,400 Palestinian fatalities, including at least 327 children, since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reports that Gaza’s hospitals operate far below capacity, with shortages of medicine, equipment and fuel, and that over 18,500 patients, including 4,000 children, need evacuation, while more than 1,000 have died awaiting transport. Nearly two million residents lack adequate shelter as 80% of structures are damaged, and 1.4 million face crisis-level hunger. Recent Israeli actions, such as live-fire incidents in refugee camps and artillery strikes, have further intensified civilian casualties.

Why it matters

The claim that the ceasefire is ineffective highlights ongoing humanitarian crises and challenges to international peace efforts.
