Hundreds of schools across the UK and several European nations receive bomb‑threat emails
On Monday, pupils and staff in dozens of schools in Scotland and Northern Ireland were warned after threatening emails claimed a bomb was present. Similar messages were reported at more than 70 schools in Hungary and over 100 schools in Serbia. Police in Scotland and the Police Service of Northern Ireland have treated the messages as hoaxes and are investigating their source, while the National Investigation Office in Hungary has opened a criminal probe. No explosives or bomb‑making materials have been found at any of the inspected schools, and education officials are working with police to reassure parents and keep classes running where possible.
