Hundreds of volcanic tremors signal heightened eruption danger at Kanlaon Volcano

Phivolcs recorded 105 volcanic-tectonic quakes beneath Kanlaon Volcano, with the strongest reaching magnitude 3, and warned of a possible eruption.

From Thursday noon to Friday morning, 105 VT earthquakes were detected under Kanlaon Volcano, according to Phivolcs. The most powerful event, a magnitude-3 quake, occurred at 2:10 a.m. Resident volcanologist Mari-Andylene Quintia said the swarm raises the likelihood of an eruption. Authorities have issued an alert for nearby communities as the seismic activity continues.
