Hungarian average wages climb, net earnings grow faster than gross thanks to family benefits

Hungary's statistical office reports that average gross earnings reached nearly 780,000 forints in March, then declined by 9,200 forints in July, whereas average net earnings dropped by 6,400 forints over the same period. Year-on-year, gross wages have risen by 51,800 forints and net wages by 43,800 forints since July last year. The net increase outpaced gross growth, a trend linked to expanded family and maternity tax benefits.

Regular gross earnings, excluding bonuses, stand at 706,900 forints, a 7.0% rise over the previous year. Sector-specific averages show the highest gross pay in telecommunications and IT at 1,199,000 forints, followed by finance at 1,138,000, while hospitality averages 476,900.
