A Hungarian Baptist humanitarian team delivered 500 hygiene kits to families displaced by recent landslides and flash floods in Nepal's Devighat area.
The Hungarian Baptist Service’s humanitarian crew, together with local NGOs and U.S. groups, reached Devighat, a settlement on the lower slopes of the Arun River near the Tibetan frontier, where rescue teams are still recovering bodies. Their first task was to compile and distribute 500 hygiene kits to families who have lost their homes and are living in an emergency camp. The operation faced difficult transport conditions due to landslides and heavy traffic in the mountains.
Over the next few days the team intends to deliver ten water-purification units, medical supplies and blankets to areas devastated by the landslide and flash flood. They will also assess needs in higher-lying villages after consulting with local partners. According to Nepal’s disaster-management agency, at least 1,300 people have died in the recent natural disaster.
