Hungarian consumer prices show mixed trends in August, with some goods cheaper and services pricier
In August, Hungary's consumer price index rose modestly compared with the previous month, while many food items fell in price and several services became more expensive.
According to data from the Central Statistical Office, Hungary's consumer price index edged up in August relative to July. While the average price level rose, a range of food products—including fresh domestic and imported fruit, fresh vegetables, pork, cheese and canned meat—registered significant price drops. Conversely, prices for espresso coffee, workplace meal subscriptions, buffet items, potatoes, cooking oil, candy and honey increased.
Service sectors such as theatre, freight transport, taxis, postal services and personal care also experienced higher costs. Energy bills stayed roughly stable, with a modest reduction in gas prices. Overall, the mixed movement reflects divergent pressures across food, services and energy markets.
