Hungarian Defence Forces complete riverbank project at Paks, minister praises results

The Hungarian Defence Forces finished work on the riverbank reinforcement at the Paks nuclear plant, with Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi expressing satisfaction.

According to Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, the Hungarian Defence Forces have completed their assignment at the Paks nuclear power plant, where 979 soldiers logged extensive work hours on the riverbank reinforcement. The effort employed 145 machines to transport a large quantity of stone, raising the riverbed to improve water levels for the plant’s cooling system. The minister praised the work, and the mayor of Dunaszentbenedek reported that the restored sections are now in superior condition compared to their previous state.

In addition to the riverbank work, several road segments were repaired and a modest dock was constructed along the riverbank for one outlet use. Ruszin-Szendi highlighted that the water supply system built for the plant is operational, contributing to national nuclear and energy security despite the river’s low water level.

Why it matters

The project enhances cooling water availability for the Paks nuclear plant, supporting Hungary's energy security.
