Hungarian foreign minister says diplomatic talks eased Ukraine row over Carpathian Eight
Foreign Minister Orbán Anita reported that talks in New York cleared up misunderstandings with Ukraine about the Carpathian Eight and kept cooperation channels open.
In a televised interview, Hungarian Foreign Minister Orbán Anita said that recent discussions with Ukraine’s foreign minister in New York resolved the confusion surrounding the Carpathian Eight group. She emphasized Hungary’s willingness to join the initiative if pre-dialogue and preparation are ensured. Orbán reiterated the government’s earlier statement that the Tisza administration will not provide Ukraine with strategic fuel-storage capacity, citing a memorandum between Mol and Naftogaz.
She described the removal of Russian diplomats as a normal diplomatic practice when envoys do not comply with the Vienna Convention. The minister added that diplomatic relations with Russia remain intact and that talks on the rights of Carpathian Hungarians in Ukraine are progressing, with a legislative proposal expected in the Ukrainian parliament by October.
