Hungarian government slashes VAT on firewood to aid low-income households

Finance Minister Kármán András posted on Facebook that the government has lowered the standard VAT rate applied to firewood products. The cut covers logs, split wood, bundled firewood and compressed fuels such as pellets and briquettes. He said the measure follows recent reductions in medicine VAT and increases in school-start aid and small pensions, targeting households struggling with winter heating costs.
