Hungarian industrial output rises for third consecutive month, driven by automotive and electronics
Hungary's industrial production grew for the third month in a row, with gains mainly coming from vehicle manufacturing and computer, electronic and optical equipment sectors.
The Central Statistical Office reported that Hungary's industrial production expanded in August, continuing a three-month upward trend. While the aggregate increase was modest, it was concentrated in the two largest subsectors: vehicle manufacturing and the production of computers, electronic and optical equipment. Most other manufacturing branches, including electrical appliances and food, beverage and tobacco processing, recorded declines in volume relative to the same month last year.
Earlier months showed alternating patterns of growth and contraction, but July and August both posted positive month-on-month changes. Despite the recent gains, overall industrial output remains below the levels reached in 2021.
Why it matters
The data highlights a narrow recovery in Hungary's manufacturing sector, emphasizing reliance on automotive and electronics production.
