Hungarian ministry proposes faster approval process and adds ten new given names
A meeting of the Ministry of Social Relations and Culture resulted in an agreement to make the evaluation of given-name applications quicker and to hand the process back to relevant professional organisations. The reform also calls for the inclusion of ten new given names, including Liszka, Benna, Floriána, Doron, Zeliha and Gittel, among others. The earlier practice of the ELTE Language Research Centre informing applicants within thirty days will be discontinued.
Although a previous decision had slated 145 names for removal, none of those will be deleted under the new plan. Implementing the changes will require both decree and legislative amendments, and the goal is to provide applicants with faster responses.
